MUG statutes review committee inaugurated

The Methodist University Ghana Statutes Review Committee has been inaugurated on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at the Dansoman Campus.

In a short ceremony, the Most Rev. Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo, Chairman of the University Council and Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana charged members of the committee to approach this task with integrity, diligence, and a deep commitment to justice and equality that would ensure that MUG becomes a top-notch world-class University of Justice and fairness.

He stated that Statutes are the backbone of any legal system, providing the framework for how we live, work, and interact with one another, defining what is acceptable and what is not. He also mentioned that Statutes protect the rights of individuals in an institution and ensure justice is served where it is due.

According to him, the current Statutes in use was promulgated in the year 2004. The Academic Board constituted a committee to review the existing statutes. The committee submitted draft revised Statutes, which was approved by the Academic Board on July 8, 2014.

The draft Statutes was considered by Council, which came with several reviews.

At the 69th meeting of the Council, held on March 27, 2019. “It was agreed that since more proposals for the review of statutes were being received and that more revisions might have to be done after the University College had been granted Presidential Charter, the item should be taken off the agenda pending MUCG’s receipt of autonomy. The item should be re-introduced after MUCG had received autonomy” he added.

The Presidential Charter was presented to MUG on August 30, 2022, with an effective date of March 3, 2022. It is therefore imperative to revisit the issue.
