Akunu brings a rich industrial experience in educational assessment into the classroom, having served in various capacities in test development and test administration whiles working with the West African Examinations Council. He believes the interplay between assessment policy and practice needs to be understood if assessment, especially high stakes end of programme assessment, is not to distract teachers and students from working towards quality learning in school. He teaches test theory, educational assessment, educational evaluation theory and also supervises postgraduate dissertations. His research interests include the role of assessment in education, using external assessment to support quality education delivery, curriculum development and assessment policy development.
