Methodist University Ghana Holds 12th Matriculation Ceremony for January Cohort 2024/2025

On Friday, 28th February 2025, Methodist University Ghana (MUG) officially welcomed 721 fresh students into its academic community at the 12th Matriculation Ceremony for the January cohort of the 2024/2025 academic year. The event, a significant milestone in the university’s calendar, was attended by esteemed members of the university’s leadership, faculty, invited guests, and the newly admitted students.

Welcoming the Newest Members of MUG

Delivering his address, the Vice Chancellor, on behalf of the University’s Governing Council, Staff, Alumni, and students, warmly welcomed the matriculants. He highlighted the importance of the ceremony, which officially inducts fresh students as junior members of the institution and reminds them of their responsibilities to uphold the university’s values of Excellence, Morality, and Service.

Admission Statistics

This year’s January cohort saw a strong turnout, with 721 students registering for various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across MUG’s campuses. The university received a total of 1,180 applications, out of which 1,004 students were offered admission. The enrolled students include 44 international students from nine different countries: Nigeria, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, Kenya, Congo, Central African Republic, Ivory Coast, and Togo.

Campus Enrollment Breakdown:

  • Dansoman Campus: 468 students (134 males, 334 females)

  • Tema Campus: 123 students (29 males, 94 females)

  • Wenchi Campus: 130 students (34 males, 96 females)

Adapting to University Life at MUG

The Vice Chancellor urged students to embrace MUG’s faith-based educational environment, guided by Christian principles and ethical values. He reminded them that the Matriculation Oath binds them to the university’s rules and regulations, and he encouraged them to maintain high moral and academic standards.

He emphasized the importance of modest dressing, discipline, respect for authority, and active participation in academic and social activities, including the Institutional Worship Service and other Chaplaincy-organized programmes. Students were also encouraged to maintain a clean and green environment, making use of litter bins provided across the campus.

Support and Guidance for Students

Recognizing the challenges that come with transitioning to university life, the Vice Chancellor assured students of the support available through the university’s Counselling Unit. He encouraged them to seek guidance whenever they encounter difficulties, emphasizing that the university is committed to their holistic development.

Advice to Fresh Students

The Vice Chancellor provided key advice to the new students, urging them to:

  • Prioritise early registration and take academic work seriously.

  • Attend all lectures, understand course concepts, and actively engage with faculty.

  • Avoid copying lecture notes from peers and instead develop their own understanding of subjects.

  • Utilise the library and engage in extensive reading.

  • Abstain from falsehoods, drug and alcohol abuse, and any form of misconduct.

A Call to Excellence and Responsibility

In his concluding remarks, the Vice Chancellor reminded students to respect each other’s views, promote tolerance, and maintain harmony within the university community. He encouraged them to be ambassadors of MUG, upholding the institution’s values and contributing positively to their academic and social environment.
