On Saturday, 30th November 2024, the Methodist University Ghana (MUG) community witnessed the inspiring launch of the Directors’ Scholarship Scheme, an initiative spearheaded by alumnus and Director of the Tema Campus of MUG Mr. Atta Twumasi Dabone Junior. The short but impactful ceremony, held at the Ground Floor, Room 1 of the MUG Tema Campus, brought together students, staff, and well-wishers to celebrate this generous effort to support brilliant but needy students.
The event was particularly special as it coincided with the birthday of Mr. Dabone and his twin brother, making the celebration even more meaningful. It was marked by heartfelt speeches, an engaging fundraising session, and a shared commitment to ensuring that financial challenges do not hinder the education of deserving students.
In his address, Mr. Dabone reflected on his own experiences as a student at MUG and the struggles he witnessed among peers who faced the threat of dropping out due to unpaid fees.
“As someone who has walked the same path, it is heartbreaking to see students forced to abandon their studies or endure constant harassment over fees. This scholarship is my small way of giving back and ensuring that others can pursue their education without such disruptions,” he remarked.
The highlight of the event was the fundraising session, during which a substantial amount was realised, demonstrating the generosity and support of attendees. These contributions will go a long way in assisting students who demonstrate academic potential but are unable to meet their financial obligations.
The dignitaries present lauded Mr. Dabone for his vision and commitment. “This initiative reflects the spirit of our university—compassion, empowerment, and community. We are immensely proud of Mr. Dabone and grateful for his contributions,” they noted.
The Directors’ Scholarship Scheme remains open for further contributions. The MUG community and the general public are encouraged to support this noble cause by donating via mobile money to 0244435969. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference in transforming the lives of brilliant but needy students.
Together, we are building a brighter future, one student at a time.
